Few figures in recent American media history have attracted as much tabloid scrutiny at such a young age as Courtney Stodden. Born on August 29, 1994, in Tacoma, Washington, Courtney first entered the public eye through beauty pageants and local television appearances around 2009, while still a teenager.

Early Career and Media Attention

Courtney's name became internationally recognized in 2011, when at age 16, she married actor Doug Hutchison, then 51. The 35-year age gap drew intense media coverage and widespread criticism, with the relationship frequently described in terms of grooming and exploitation. This notoriety, however complicated its origins, propelled Courtney into a string of reality television opportunities. Appearances on Couples Therapy (2012), the UK edition of Celebrity Big Brother (2013), Reality Ex-Wives (2015), The Mother/Daughter Experiment (2016), and Celebs Go Dating (2017) followed in quick succession.

Music and Adult Content

Alongside television work, Courtney pursued a music career, releasing tracks including "Car Candy," "Crazy," "Don't Put It On Me," and "We Are America" beginning around 2010. In August 2015, Courtney signed with Rich Kid Mafia for artist management. On the adult content side, a solo sex tape was released through Vivid Entertainment in May 2015, with Courtney stating that proceeds would benefit charity. The marriage to Hutchison ended with a divorce finalized in March 2020. Two years later, in March 2022, Courtney publicly described feeling groomed and emotionally abused during the relationship. Courtney came out as non-binary in April 2021, initially using they/them pronouns before updating to she/they in June 2022. Courtney also identifies as bisexual. Outside of entertainment, Courtney has served as a PETA spokesperson and is a longtime vegetarian.
